Antique Commode Cabinet Chest - Drawer Storage / Lamp Table - Mahogany Georgian
An antique bow-front commode cabinet dating from the late Georgian to early Victorian period. Originally made to house a chamber pot, it has been later converted with the lift-up lid fixed down and the top flap repurposed as a single working drawer. The two lower front panels are non-functional, as these would originally have formed the chamber pot compartment. The conversion makes it a more practical decorative piece, ideal as a lamp table or side cabinet with some usable storage.
Constructed from mixed hardwoods with a mahogany veneer and finish, featuring a shaped apron, turned wooden knobs, and splayed legs. Unsure of the exact age, but more than happy to help with any further questions.
Condition
In well used antique condition with scratches, scuffs, dents, and age-related wear. The top shows surface marks and finish losses from long-term use. The single drawer opens and closes and functions as it should, but the internal workmanship is crude and clearly a later amateur alteration. Small chips, knocks, and losses to edges, legs, and veneer areas, and the old commode opening is still visible inside the cabinet (pot is not included). Would benefit from a good clean and polish or ideal to further convert.
