Antique Jardiniere Plant Stand Oak Barrel Planter - Edwardian R A Lister & Co
An antique coopered oak jardiniere stand with brass banding, raised on a tall tripod base with under tier. A classic Edwardian planter with strong country house appeal, ideal for displaying house plants, ferns, or as a decorative hall or conservatory stand.
The barrel is constructed from solid oak staves with warm tones and pronounced grain, bound with brass coopering bands. It stands on three long, shaped legs united by a triangular under tier. The interior retains the maker’s roundel for R.A. Lister & Co - Makers, confirming English manufacture. Likely Edwardian, circa 1900–1920. Unsure of the exact age, but more than happy to help with any further questions.
The planter and stand have been secured together at some point, and no longer separate as they would have originally
Condition
In well used antique condition. Showing age and use with surface scratches, scuffs, watermarks and finish loss throughout. The brass bands show tarnish and marks consistent with age. The interior of the planter shows heavy wear, staining, and areas of loss to the internal finish from previous plant use. There are visible splits / gaps to the barrel rim consistent with shrinkage across the coopered joints. The under tier shows dark staining and wear. Structurally fair overall, with age-related movement at joints but remains usable and stable.
Would benefit from a good clean and polish, or ideal for refinishing
We have tried to capture all of these in the photos as best as possible, so please study these as a good indication of cosmetic condition.
