George V Waring & Gillow Mahogany Gentleman’s Wardrobe
George V Waring & Gillow Mahogany Gentleman’s Wardrobe
A fine quality George V mahogany gentleman’s wardrobe by Waring & Gillow, a distinguished maker renowned for producing high-quality furniture for prestigious interiors in the early 20th century.
The wardrobe features a beautifully restrained classical design, with a nulled frieze above a pair of fluted panelled doors, opening to reveal a thoughtfully arranged and highly practical fitted interior.
Inside is a superb gentleman’s arrangement including labelled compartments, sliding trays, small divisions for accessories, and hanging space, all designed for organised clothing storage. The interior craftsmanship and layout are typical of the quality associated with Waring & Gillow pieces.
The wardrobe stands on spreading front feet with plain rear feet, giving the piece a balanced and elegant stance. The maker’s label remains present to the interior. The trousers rail is missing from its section.
The rich mahogany has developed a lovely warm tone over time. There are some scuffs and marks, particularly to the flanks, consistent with age and use, though nothing that detracts from the overall presence of the piece.
The wardrobe retains its working key.
