Jacobean Revival Oak Dining Set 4 Chairs And Extendable Table
91 x 91 cm extendable to 180 cm and four upholstered dining.
I applied some beeswax which restored the wood.
The suite is constructed from solid oak, which has been stained and polished to a deep, dark brown hue, now exhibiting a mature patina consistent with its age.
The dining table stands on four robust, handsomely executed barley-sugar or spiral-twist turned legs, a quintessential feature of the Jacobean Revival style. These legs terminate in substantial bun feet and are united by a simple, square-section H-form stretcher, providing both stability and period-correct design. The tabletop is of a square form with a plank-effect or framed top, which, as per the dimensions provided, functions as a draw-leaf table. This practical mechanism allows two leaves, stored beneath the main top, to be pulled out from either end, effectively doubling its length for larger gatherings.
The suite includes four high-backed dining chairs. The chairs present a harmonious, though not identical, design. The chairs display a more ornate character with a carved top rail featuring a decorative scrolling crest above a band of carved lunettes or gadrooning. Its back splat is intricately carved with a geometric or stylized botanical motif. All chairs feature square stiles, with the front legs showing evidence of turning, complementing the table's design. The rear legs are of a simpler, square-cut form, gently raked for stability. Each chair is fitted with a drop-in seat pad, currently upholstered in a crimson red fabric of a plain, modern weave.
