Modernist Design Large 3 Drawer Desk In Mid Century Colours
Thank you for viewing my work.
This is a large desk, made from Indian mango wood, constructed in a solid modernist style, with three drawers, fantastic solid tapered legs, reminiscent of Jean Prouve furniture, allowing spacious leg room below the working and storing area.
Products and processes.
Thorough cleaning and sanding, followed by three coats of Frenchic 'Earthy' paint to all four legs, three coats of Frenchic 'Pistache' to main body, table top, back, sides, front drawer apertures and under side (photos available on request). Left and right drawer fronts in ReColour 'Teal', with Rustoleum 'Chalky White' for hand painted pattern. Centre drawer front in bespoke mixed undercoat and top coat by Johnstones paints, followed with 'Pistache', 'Chalk White' and 'Teal' hand painted patterns. Videos and photographs of all processes available on request. Clear wax used to seal drawer fronts.
Inspiration and influence for design and colour.
The entire desk has an organic modernist look, with a French post war era feel, so I opted for muted complementary colours for the main areas and bright secondary complementaries for the drawer fronts, repeating the colours all over again in the details of the design. For the actual pattern I took inspiration from the mid century David Whitehead of Rawtenstall catalogues, particularly the surface patterns of Marion Mahler and Tom Mellor, and I replicated the line quality to fit the drawer fronts individually after practising on sample boards. The sample boards are also available by request. This desk is ready to use and in excellent repainted condition. drawers are running smoothly. The desk will arrive with legs wrapped separately, and they are easy to screw into place when you have found the right spot for the desk in your home.
