Oriental 1920s Cloud Shaped Carved Cabinet (Camphor Wood)
Oriental 1920s Cloud Shaped Carved Cabinet (Camphor Wood)
An exceptional and highly decorative Oriental carved cabinet, dating from the 1920s and crafted in the rare and distinctive cloud-shaped form. Likely made of camphor wood, it is richly adorned with intricate carvings to the front, sides, back, and top, depicting figures, dragon ships, temples, trees, flowers, and rivers—a true celebration of artistry and detail.
The legs are finely carved with decorative motifs that continue into the shaped side brackets, terminating in claw feet. The cloud-shaped profile gives this piece a wonderfully unusual silhouette, making it as much a statement as it is a piece of furniture.
The front comprises two cupboard doors, one with a fitted shelf, and four central drawers, all of which run smoothly. There is a faint split visible on the left curve of the top, but it is stable, unobtrusive, and blends well with the natural grain and carving.
A rare and striking cabinet—beautifully crafted, highly decorative, and wonderfully unusual—perfect for collectors and interiors seeking a statement piece with history and character.
Dimensions:
• Width: 128.5cm (to legs)
• Depth: 69.5cm (to legs)
• Height (centre): 88.5cm
• Height (left & right): 83.5cm
