There are intricate carvings across this piece, and a particular standout feature is the carved Green Man faces on the front of the drawers.
(The Green Man is a figure in folklore and mythology often depicted as a man surrounded by leaves, vines, or foliage, symbolizing the wild, nature, and the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. He can be seen as a symbol of humanity's relationship with nature, representing the need to reconnect with the wild within ourselves. The Green Man also embodies the Horned God in modern Paganism, representing the triumph of nature and the return of spring).
Additionally the doors feature two pairs of Phoenix rising from the flames, the phoenix a legendary immortal bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Originating in Greek mythology, it has analogs in many cultures, such as Egyptian and Persian mythology. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. Some legends say it dies in a show of flames and combustion, while others say that it simply dies and decomposes before being born again.
