Victorian Late 19th Century Carved Oak Hall Chair Charles II Style
A magnificent oak antique late 19th Century Victorian Charles II style hall chair.
Elaborately carved in a design which takes its influence from the late 17th Century, high back ornately carved with a cane back panel, the side rails turned and topped with finials, the upholstered seat supported on twisted and block legs with H-stretchers, with a carved front stretcher.
Carved with flower-heads and cherubs. The top stretcher features cherubs, amid leaves, supporting a Crown. Design is then repeated on the lower stretcher. Really good quality sturdy chair with smart cabriole front legs.
Condition report: The chair is in a period and unrestored condition. It has been recovered in a hessian fabric (would have originally been caned). The cane top panel part of the chair is in excellent condition. With lots of age and wear, there are splits in the wood and some old worm holes which have been treated with worm killer as a precaution. Refer to listing photographs for details of damage. It's received a good clean and polish.
